Update on Brixton Hill/ Acre Lane Road works

At 6am on Sunday 15 November Brixton Hill will become a two-way road. The one-way system around St Matthew's Church in Brixton will be closed as part of works by Transport for London (TfL) to improve Brixton town centre.

Brixton Hill will be widened to accommodate two-way traffic and Effra Road will be closed to all but local traffic. This and other slight changes will improve pedestrian access to and from St Matthew's Peace Gardens and the new Windrush Square.

Key details of the changes are:
  • One-way system to become two-way along Brixton Hill
  • The left turn from Brixton Road into Coldharbour Lane will be closed permanently and a new 'green man' traffic signal for pedestrians will be introduced across Coldharbour Lane
  • Permanent U-Turn ban from Brixton Hill into Effra Road
  • The pedestrian crossing on Brixton Hill from Lambeth Town Hall to St Matthew's Church will be reinstated.
